My son is all of 14 years old and is already 5’8” which also perhaps explains why he was chosen to lead his team of commandos into the dangerous jungle.

Okay, okay I’m getting ahead of myself. The “team of commandos” are actually a bunch of teenagers playing at it with paintball guns. Understandably, my wife Martha wasn’t too happy about it. “Why can’t he play soccer like some of the other kids?” she would ask. My heart sinks a bit I’m thinking $250 at least. I may be a lieutenant but the pay scale barely helps keep things together. Know what I mean? So, that extra expenditure of $250 or so was like trying to swallow that burnt toast all in one go.

Anyway, knowing my son had probably had his mind set on a particular watch I asked which “watch fit for a commando chief” he would like? And, he pulls out his smartphone and displays a huge rugged looking watch with three smart looking sub-dials. Damn! I’m impressed; that was one humongous watch. “How much is it?” I ask. “Just $143 dad” he says. I relax a bit; I’m thinking, that’s not so bad.

The more I looked at it, the more I realized, it was indeed built for a real commando. The retail price was being displayed as $264 but it was for sale at $143. I looked over the specs and bought it right away. The watch arrived a few days later.

The Diesel Mega Chief DZ4487 Chronograph Quartz Men’s Watch is an all stainless-steel, 55mm across, had a strong silicon strap. At the top of the dial, it has this badge that said “Only the brave”

The three sub-dials where for timer function. There was a milli-second dial, a second’s dial and minutes dial. It could count up to 60 minutes. It had impressively large luminescent hour hands. 50-meter water resistance and a mineral crystal ensured the watch stayed safe. I carefully repacked the watch and called my son.

A ray of sunshine opened up on him when he saw what was kept on the table. He opened it quickly, whooped, and wore the watch – all in 5 seconds or so. Well, what can I say? If he is happy, I am happy.
