Greg is an athletics coach at the local school and I was lucky his home was right next to mine. Lucky because my son Allan age 9, was in the sports team of which, Greg was the coach. Thanks to a lot of advice from Greg, my son developed the habit of running right from age of 6 and not just developed it, he began to love it.
My wife and I, watched with pride as the cupboard in our son’s room began to fill up with sports trophies. I began to plan a special cabinet to be kept in the living room and exclusively meant to house all the trophies.
My father (Allan granddad), had given Allan a digital watch. After severe use, I noticed the watch had collected a lot of scratches to the extent the digits were barely visible and still our Allan did not complain. The watch was important as he used it to time his runs. How many laps around the block, average time and so forth.
I tried Googling for digital watches and Google returned so many brands and models that I was confused. Then I thought, why not ask Greg?
It was Greg who recommended the Nixon Base Tide Digital A1104-1114-00 Quartz Men’s Watch. He said “in terms of design, the watch is basically a kids model but packs the same functions as an adult sports model. Moreover, it is easy to use and accurate too.” Helpful as ever, Greg also sent me the link via WhatsApp.
The link opened up a site called https://www.zetawatches.com/ which had like a few hundred watches on sale. Every possible brand I could think of, was there. Under each brand they had listed several dozen models in varying price ranges and functionality.
When I saw the Nixon Base Tide Digital A1104-1114-00 Quartz Men’s Watch, I liked it right away. Greg was right when he said the design was for kids. It had a multi-coloured silicon strap that any kid would love. It had large digits that anyone could read even when running and I think, this was why Greg recommended this brand and model.
100-Meter water resistance, the countdown timer and several other features made this Nixon model the ideal watch for Allan. Some folks wait for a birthday or some such event to make a gift. I decided against waiting. Allan’s birthday was some months away and I felt, the sooner I gave him the watch, the better it would be for him.
The Nixon Base Tide Digital A1104-1114-00 Quartz Men’s Watch had a retail price tag of $100 but was on sale for just $64. Perfect, I thought to myself. Before buying, I made sure this was not a refurbished piece and that it included a valid warranty.
Four days later, our son began wearing the Nixon digital watch and was running even faster than before; or was that my silly imagination? In any case, he was happy with it and that counts for something doesn’t it?
