I was part of a team of volunteers cleaning up the shores of the Mississippi River. Myself and team had dived down and were busy removing fallen debris, abandoned nets, anchors, discarded underwater welding equipment etc. when, we chanced upon what looked like a part of an ancient ship buried in the Mississippi river silt. If this was really it, then we had hit a gold mine.
We got in touch with the University of Memphis who sent a team of archaeologists to check the find. A week later, it was confirmed beyond a shred of doubt that the remains of the ship we stumbled upon, was most certainly a Viking Knarr. This meant that the Norse people had covered more of America than was earlier thought. History would have to be rewritten and hopefully, my name might find mention somewhere.
As a celebration present for myself, I decided to discard my twice-repaired Orient divers watch which I had purchased from a pawn shop for all of $200. I had purchased it when I was awarded my divers C-card some 6 years ago. Over the years, the watch crystal and bezel had accumulated scratches and viewing the dial face was getting increasingly difficult.
I had my sights set on the Tag Heuer Aquaracer WAY131M.BA0748 Diamond Accents Quartz 300M Women’s Watch. I’m not a deep-sea diver so the Tag Heuer Aquaracer suited me perfectly. Also, the diamond accents meant I could not only wear the watch underwater, but could also wear it to a party.
At 3.5cm across, the Tag Heuer Aquaracer WAY131M.BA0748 is not huge like the those worn by other divers; but quite adequate in that, I don’t have to squint to read the time. It has a highly reflective black mother of pearl dial face, two thick hands and of course, the lovely diamond accents and reflect fire even in the murky depths of a river. A stainless-steel case and bracelet complete the watch.
I bought it from https://www.zetawatches.com/shop/tag-heuer-aquaracer-way131m-ba0748-diamond-accents-quartz-300m-womens-watch/ mainly because they had a massive sale going on and I was happy to snap up the watch for almost a 50% discount. The international warranty was reassuring.
A week after it arrived, I took the watch for a ‘test drive’ near the location where we found the Viking Knarr. The watch performed flawlessly. The unidirectional bezel worked to perfection. On coming back to the surface, I did not see any condensation – given that the watch was supposed to have a 300M water resistance, I would have been surprised if there was any condensation.
During any dive, I carry a separate digital timer with me – one that has large illuminated digits and has 4 independent timers in it. So, I’m not too concerned about the Tag Heuer Aquaracer WAY131M.BA0748 not having any sub-dials. For me, the watch is perfection personified.
